Lab 2: Anatomy of Good Supply Chains

This lab is a presentation. The students will have to prepare for this lab in advance and make a presentation in the allotted class.

  1. Search for the Gartner “2020 Supply Chain Top 25” list
  2. Groups can choose one from the two companies from the list as mentioned below
    • Group 1: #1 or #25
    • Group 2: #2 or #24
    • Group 3: #3 or #23
    • Group 4: #5 or #22
    • Group 5: #6 or #21
    • Group 6: #8 or #20
    • Group 7: #10 or #19
    • Group 8: #11 or #16
    • Group 9: #13 or #15
    • Grou 10: #4, #9 or #12
  3. Students are to present on these 5 topics
    • Slide 1: Title: Lab title, group number, names of group members
    • Slide 2: Company Introduction and classification of company products as functional or innovative and the company supply chain as efficient or reactive. Justify the classification.
    • Slide 3: “Plan” activities done by the company.
    • Slide 4: “Source” activities done by the company/
    • Slide 5: “Delivery” activities done by the company.
    • Slide 6: “Return”, “Enable” or any information technology related activity done by the company.
    • Slide 7: References (Every activity in slide 2 – 6 must have a reference and must be mentioned here. The reference can be an article, website, news report, etc.)
  4. Mention and describe at least 2 activities in each of the five topics.
  5. Example of sources that can be used:
    • Library has a few datasets with company information, for e.g. Hoover’s dataset
    • Google News can provide a list of recent company activities
  6. The presentation should be submitted by the before the class begins on Canvas.
  7. Each presentation should be 5 – 8 minutes.

Tips for the slides

  1. Do not clutter the slide with too much content. I like neat and clean slides with few few words.
  2. Use the notes area under the slide extensively. As I show in the picture above, detail the content of the slide here. I am going to try and understand the slide in your absence. So, the notes section must have all the information that I need to understand the slide.
  3. The notes section can be like the script of your speech for that slide. Think of what you would have said if you were presenting this slide. Document that speech in the notes section. Be as detailed here as you can.
